This year's festival will begin spearheaded by a section dedicated to jazz music. At this year's 'Jazz on the Hill', we are bringing pureblood American jazz to the forefront through unpredictable collaborations:
- The exceptional drummer, composer and producer Terri Lyne Carrington, two-time Grammy Award winner, who will be presented her project titled 'The Mosaic Project 2' with an all-female band on instruments and renowned soul and r'n'b singer Lizz Wright on vocals. Ms Wright first visited Greece in 2005 at the invitation of Sani Festival.
- An exclusive Jazz Symphony Project based on an original idea by the artistic director of Sani Festival, Olga Tabouris-Babalis, which will be one of the most important moments of this year's Jazz on the Hill. The event involves a highly interesting collaboration between Terence Blanchard, the highly acclaimed, award-winning jazz trumpeter, and the exceptional musicians of Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the Greek-Danish conductor Stefanos Tsialis. This will be a unique musical meeting of Greek and foreign artists during an experiment that will combine jazz textures with classical music.
- One of the most ambitious young minds of jazz, the international Greek performer Nikolas Anadolis, who is making waves in Europe and America and will be performing with his trio consisting of foreign jazz musicians.
Sani Festival is a private initiative with choices based on knowledge, originality, unprecedented artist choices and the general philosophy that has been adhered to over the 22 years of its existence. This has been proven time and again by its faithful audience, prestigious participants, excellent organisation, international appeal and constant renewal.
